Q-CTRL has announced a major milestone in quantum computing, demonstrating a 3,000-fold speedup in materials simulation for the energy sector using its infrastructure software on the IBM Quantum Platform.

The breakthrough provides evidence of “practical quantum advantage”, where a quantum computer outperforms classical methods on a commercially relevant problem.

This achievement highlights the growing real-world potential of quantum computing to accelerate materials discovery and support advances in areas such as energy storage, superconductors and next-generation technologies.
